The fix will mean a possible performance hit of up to 30%!!

January 3, 2018 at 4:25 pmMy fave take away:
“Impact
It is understood the bug is present in modern Intel processors produced in the past decade. It allows normal user programs – from database applications to JavaScript in web browsers – to discern to some extent the layout or contents of protected kernel memory areas. The fix is to separate the kernel’s memory completely from user processes using what’s called Kernel Page Table Isolation, or KPTI. At one point, Forcefully Unmap Complete Kernel With Interrupt Trampolines, aka F*CKWIT, was mulled by the Linux kernel team, giving you an idea of how annoying this has been for the developers.”
This seems like a very large problem on many levels.

January 3, 2018 at 6:00 pmApple slows down phones to preserve battery life and the internet goes mad, Intel may have left a vulnerability in ALL their processors and there’s not many headlines about it at all!
I’ll be very interested to see what the official word is from Intel

January 3, 2018 at 6:03 pmSeems like Apple are already ahead of the game!
However is this why people are reporting performance issues with FCPX 10.4?

The question on everyone's minds: Does MacOS fix the Intel #KPTI Issue? Why yes, yes it does. Say hello to the "Double Map" since 10.13.2 -- and with some surprises in 10.13.3 (under Developer NDA so can't talk/show you). cc @i0n1c @s1guza @patrickwardle pic.twitter.com/S1YJ9tMS63

January 11, 2018 at 1:23 pmLooks like my MacPro 1,1 might be in the clear! And believe it or not, you can hack it to run FCPX 10.3.4 on El Cap. It actually works pretty well in 1080p. I know you can also do Sierra, so probably 10.4 too. I just have the thing sitting around as a development machine for testing.
