August 2, 2017 at 6:57 amAt least that the hydrogen device will be capable of running iOS.
Edit.
Jim January announced the other week that “Major world carrier signed to carry Hydrogen in all stores will announce soon.”
Interesting.
Edit edit.
Jarred Land recently commented on his social media that “apple wouldn’t be getting Raven if they didn’t bring back the Pro hardware”

FWIW – I’ve done two films shot on RED and cut on X. One with an externally-generated proxy workflow and the other with the built-in FCPX proxy workflow. Very easy and enjoyable process.

August 2, 2017 at 1:12 pmAccording to Jarred Land on his Facebook it had nothing to do with Hydrogen, but everything with the new Mac Pro.
That just makes me more curious. We already know that Apple is searching for people in L.A. to check pro workflows for their new hardware.

August 2, 2017 at 6:39 pmMy opinion only.
I see a ton of this type of cross promotion in very large companies because it’s orders of magnitude more efficient to do strategic partnerships than to try to manage new product and marketing chains for all the bespoke products you need to manage to satisfy diverse customer constituencies.
My kid had friends over and we did bulk cheap pizza for the first time in a long while. Pizza Huts desert cookie comes branded as Hershey now.
If you’re already running a huge company – outsourcing via strategic partnerships just makes everything easier.
Three small teams from Red, Apple and Sigma can create a bundle that takes TONS of friction out of a purchase decision for their customers. At least for purchasers that have a $15,000 credit card line available – and tons of small business entreprenures do. Heck, even if you add another $4000 for a speedy laptop the total is about a third the cost of my first financed SD video production system twenty years ago.
And so it goes.

Although it seems Red’s interest is due to Apple’s commitment to a new MacPro. Yet, that seems a long way off.
I’m wondering if the time for the new iMacPro is very near since this would be a combination that may push purchases of the iMacPro. -

August 3, 2017 at 3:53 amGreat news for starters.
I’ve been using RED since 2009 (R1) and got my own Scarlet back in 2012.
I won’t be upgrading.
I’ll run this baby till one of us drops.
Great gear and yep I drank the Kool Aid for both Apple and RED 😉

August 3, 2017 at 9:22 amReading more of the social media posts, it’s intriguing that red were a large part of the demos for the new GPU from AMD that uses SSD technology to buffer the playback and give full debayer and quality playback of 8K raw files on relatively basic systems.
Curious to think that Apple and AMD might be cooking up something very special for the next Mac Pro with uber high resolution playback and editing one of the key offerings.
