  FCPX NAS / SAN Solution?

  I work for a facility that is happily editing on FCPX — yes, FCPX — using Shared Storage from a MacPro/Atto R680 to switched clients via GbE / SMB.

  HOWEVER, we are growing and want a solution that plays better with the FCPX Libraries so clients can edit off of them directly on the server. I know LumaForge makes a truly excellent product for this.

  They use a Linux Server running ZFS to share out over NFS.

  Do you know if anyone have a solution for FCPX like this?

  Hi –
  I answered your question in detail this morning in a private email.
  But for the group – any system that uses NFS can edit FCP-X.
  Both Ronny Courtens in Denmark and Sam Meseman with LumaForge gave presentations on this at IBC last week.

  So everything that can do NFS (which is every system except AVID ISIS) can do FCP-X shared storage.
  The usual – Facilis, EditShare, Small Tree, Maxx Digital, Studio Network Solutions, ProMax, LumaForge, and all the others. Enable NFS, and you can share your libraries. Many people don’t like NFS, and just manually move their libraries around, and continue to just use AFP or SMB, with the minor inconvenience of
  having to keep their libraries on a local volume.

  Media for FCP-X of course, has never been an issue.

  I would like to make a historical post on this subject.
  With all the “smart people in the room”, and all the smart manufacturers who do this –
  the single person that discovered this, and posted it on https://www.fcp.co
  was Amanda Burns at Florida Atlantic University.
  This young lady figured out what no one else could, as “we” were scrambling with sparse disk images at the introduction of FCP-X.

  NFS was readily available in OS X Server in Snow Leopard, and Apple “hid it” upon the introduction of FCP-X. Many thanks to both Amanda Burns and Marcel Bresink.
