Hi and thank if you can help.

I want to put together an After Effects workstation with some equipment recently
    retired at the office.

Initially this workstation will be used to revise and render out some :30 Standard def commercials with animations.

Still seems like a pretty nice machine to me. But let me know if I will fell limited or how I might improve
    this configuration. Currently it is:

HP XW8200 Dual Xeon (3.4g), Nvidia Quadro FX 1400, and 3 gb RAM.

Any recommendations for a Monitor would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks a lot.

if the motherboard will support more ram, you have a 64-bit os and are going to use cs3 or cs4, then you could stand to get more ram.

those later versions of ae can utilize more ram, as much as 2gb per processor/core, you’ll just need available ram slots and a 64-bit os to address anymore than 4gb.

but even with the 3gb, the basic machine seems like should handle ae fairly well.
