No sound in AE CS4
Posted by Martin Arneberg on November 18, 2008 at 10:37 amHi!
i am currently working on a trial version of After Effects CS4. My problem is, AE doesn’t recognize audio files as audio files. I cannot play them, cannot see tha waveform, and when I play my composition, the bars in the audio meter are not moving. My layer in the compostition is not recognized as audio, because I cannot apply the audio switch for it. the file is a 48kHz Wave-file, so that should not be a problem. I have searched through the forum, not finding an answer to my problem; how to make this audio file work.

November 18, 2008 at 2:55 pmI am not that new to AE…. If RAM Preview had been the problem, i would have solved it right away. No threads here have dealt with this exact issue.
Like I said, the problem is that AE doesn’t recognize the file as an audio file. I therefore cannot RAM prewiev it with the video. Neither does it work with only audio preview. The transform drop menu in the composition window also isn’t operative. I only get the lock symbol at the left side, not the “eye”, the “speaker” and the “dot”.
Also the audio file doesn’t play from the project window. I have used several versions of AE earlier, with no complications.

November 18, 2008 at 4:26 pmcan you hear that specific wav file in the other versions of ae? or even in another program like an nle or media player perhaps?
if the file is fine there are a few things you could try…. when ae does things that are completely unexplainable, i’ve found that re-booting often helps. also removing the entire folder that contains the after effects pref file can sometimes help.

March 2, 2009 at 11:39 pmI have the same problem.
No problem with Premiere or Sound booth CS4 on PC playing .wav or .mov files. After Effect CS4 will not play the files. The audio window does not function. The audio waves are seen in the timeline, Is this a bug or do I need to change a setting?

March 3, 2009 at 9:28 amI have until now not solved the problem. But an idea is to start with the videos in a premiere project. Then replace the clips with after effects composition. That worked for me because I currently only deal with talking heads that needs keying.

March 3, 2009 at 7:55 pmWhen I import .mp3 files I get an error:
Audio conforming failed: Check media cache preferences. After i click “ok” the file gets imported the icon at the top of the project window displays that it it’s a sound file, color coding in the time line looks normal(green), but it does not play and it does not display an audio wave in the layer window. When i import .wav files I do not get the error message, but file does not look normal: it’s grey in the time line, It does not have a sound wave icon at the top of the project window, it does not display an audio wave in layer window and it DOES NOT WORK
Need Help…

March 31, 2009 at 3:01 pmIn my case the Conformed Media Cache was not assigned to any folder.
Try going to Edit>Preferences>Media and Disk Cache>Conformed Media Cache and assign (choose from the drop down menu) a folder. I have the same folder assigned for both Cache and Database.
