With all the repeated ‘it’s different’ discussions on FCP X, I went back to the time of FCP 1 and then FCP 2 where Avid users continually derided FCP as a not pro software. Some still do. Actually, no they don’t. Many of have finished writing off FCP as dead.

So I searched and came upon this ‘review’ of FCP 2…

[From the article:] “For example, Premiere took 106 seconds to render a 5-second cross dissolve on a 667MHz Power Mac G4; Final Cut Pro took just 21 seconds.”

That’s right kids, we used to have to render everything. It’s hard to imagine now how long things took to render back then.

Or only 4 seconds on a NORMAL length dissolve. 🙂

Hmmm…I don’t recall having to render a dissolve in Avid at that time.

And really, who does 5 second dissolves?

That’s because Avid was only sold as a turnkey $70k system at that time.

[Shane Ross] “And really, who does 5 second dissolves?”

Are two really bad shots with a 5-sec on top any better than removing the two shots?

[Shane Ross] “who does 5 second dissolves”

Pensive character, before the training/roadtrip/reconciliation montage to producer’s packaged pop tune
