  I’ve never been able to understand why anyone wouldn’t put a data centre in a very cold place. I was reading a while back that companies used hot sweaty Virginia because the coal is cheap there. Somehow there are so many things wrong with that……

  So good for Facebook – a cold place with cheap hydro electricity and the chance probably to use waste heat for something useful. Excellent.

  Wouldn’t placing a data center in such a remote location cause intolerable latency? Maybe this is just for European storage?
