My own investigation. When I check the NYC Apple Stores for Available for pickup:
NYC Soho shows Ship to Store for both off the shelf 4 and 12 core models.
5th Ave shows that for 12 core. This is flagship store.
14th St. and Grand Central still have them for Pick up.
So it looks like stock is beginning to tighten in their own retail stores as well.

I really, really hope there is fire behind the smoke this time. If they do announce something, I hope I’m not disappointed—but I’m bracing for disappointment.

    Best,

[Andrew Richards] “but I’m bracing for disappointment.”

Why? What wrong hardware turn do you think they’ll take with the MacPro?
For me if it has recent dual proc Xeons, the ability to use two GPUs, a few Thunderbolt ports, it’ll pretty much get me to where I need to go. There may be much to debate but if it has that it should be OK. Of course I expect more but I don’t expect less.

My fear is that we’ll lose the dual Xeons for something like an E3 Xeon Lite, less capacity for RAM, maybe not even a PCIe slotted GPU. I want what you want, but I’m just too snakebit to not be a bit of a pessimist at this point.

My fear is that it will be so good that I’ll regret buying the 2012 27″ iMac which I think is great.

But what I’m looking forward to really is an upgraded 27″ display to match the iMac because I would have difficulty justifying buying a new MacPro now. The 27″ iMac is more than fast enough for my ageing brain.

I think the new Xeon-line is aimed for a September release, so in Apple-fashion it would be quite early showing off a new line of MacPro’s based on this architecture three-four months ahead of time.

Then again, WWDC is a natural place to show it off on.

If Apple where to move away from Xeon’s on the MacPro I’d think they’d move to the highest end of Haswell. That would to a degree make sense but we’re talking much less powerful systems, no dual CPU, I’d think 64GB RAM max and so forth.

Mac Pro Retail Supplies Drying Up Ahead of WWDC
    https://www.mactrast.com/2013/05/mac-pro-seeing-widespread-retail-stockouts-ahead-of-wwdc/

I had noted I checked NYC Apple Stores previously. MacTrast seems to have done more extensive checking showing the state of availability of the MacPro 4 Core.

At this point it would be hard to imagine Apple not mentioning the new MacPro at WWDC.
