    Hey all,

I’ve got a weird problem that has never happened before. The renders coming out of one particular project are displaying odd horizontal lines (very small but noticeable) on certain elements of my footage. When I preview the comp everything appears fine, but once rendered the movie displays the lines. Before anyone asks, I have:

    1. Interpreted all of my standard definition footage as lower field first preserve edge quality.
    2. Set my comp to 29.97 NTSC D1
    3. Rendered out at Uncompressed 8 bit 29.97 lower field first

I’ve noticed when I render the comp at fields off 29.97, it SOMEWHAT diminishes the problem, but not entirely. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

hmmn this is strange alright. Have you any layers with demo version of plug-ins applied as this could be your source. or it could be an interlace problem that after effects is having trouble interpreting!

I’ve got Sapphire Plug-ins but they’re fully paid for with licenses and the lines are occuring even on footage that doesn’t have the effect applied. All of the footage has been digitized through FCP from Beta SX tapes as Uncompressed 8-bit 29.97 and interpreted/rendered back out as such at lower field first preserve edge quality. Any other advice?

I’ve even loaded up other projects and they’re all fun, it just seems to be this one. I don’t get it.

All footage was shot on Beta SX at 29.97 (60i) and ingested as such. No 24p elements at all. To clarify as well, these lines don’t look like “interlace issue” lines, they’re more like faint but very recognizable scanlines. They look like I had applied a scanline effect on certain clips in the comp at maybe 50% opacity, only I didn’t. Its odd, to say the least. I did a forum search and only one other person had ever had something like this happen, and he had to reload AE on his computer. I’ve gone back to all of my previous projects and rendered them out with no problems, for some reason, it’s just this one project.

As a follow up, I have solved the problem. I reset the preferences and cleared out the cache. That fixed the problem. No more scanline looking effect on the footage. Thanks.

    Hi Joe,
I got the same problem twice in different projects.
Couldn’t get it solved. Same footage renders ok in AE 7.
Btw, I also didn’t get what you mean by ‘reset preferences’?
    How can I reset it?
    Or re-install the software?
