Beginners tutorial – pasting a picture into an existing video
Hi,
I’m looking to paste an image into an existing video, for the duration of the video. This should not be too difficult because the video is of someone dancing, facing the camera, on a plain white background. What I want to do is edit out their face and replace it with a different one. I’m not sure how I can do this in After Effects – for example, would I have to paste the image into every single frame to make this work?
I’m new to After Effects and i’m not sure what the best method for this would be – any help would be much appreciated.

I would use motion tracking. Once you make a few adjustments, then put the new face on the track. Of course you have to make sure the color levels match. This may look funny because I am sure the dancer is facing his head all sorts of directions. At least this way you will have the new head on the neck. I know Andrew Kramer explains motion tracking on his Demon face warp tutorial.

Dave – I’d want it to look fairly realistic, but It wouldn’t have to be professional and seemless, this is only a beginners project. I’ll look at those videos to see what you mean, thanks.
Laurie – I’ll have a look into motion tracking, looks like the sort of thing i’d need. The head wouldn’t need to change place too often. thanks for the info.
