    Hi guys,

As you could read by the title I’m pretty just looking for resources that would teach me and get a little more in depth with 3D (how to navigate it, how it works with the camera in AE, etc).

I did a tutorial awhile ago involving bending words in 3D, but I just couldn’t figure out how to bend them in my favort. AE is not new to me since Ive been using it for a couple years now. I just never got deep into how 3D works and that the limits are in AE. If anyone could provide links to any good sources that teaches this specifically, more tutorials, along with anything else that would be awesome!

    Thanks in advance!

Ah, I remember making that first leap into 3D. In after effects it’s more like 2.5D really since you mostly work with 2D objects in 3D space.

A good source is the total training DVDs. They have really good tutorials on using 3D. Google After Effects Total Training and you should be able to muster up something. My best advice is to start a project. I watched tutorial after tutorial when I first started but I really didn’t learn how thing worked until I jumped right into it. If you start a project you’ll have something to motivate you to keep on playing with 3D space. My first project took me 2 months to complete but if I had to do it again today It would take me about 2 weeks. You can watch it here if you’d like. It’s my early work so please, be gentle.

Good luck to you sir, and never give up! Cheers.

Thanks so much Jon, I will check out total training as soon as I can get my hands on it! Pretty cool storyline though for your first movie and nicely done as well.

I am actually working in the industry right now (for web design and motion graphics), but I actually ended up starting out working with mostly web design and scripting after graduating college a very short time ago.

I have worked on and off with after effects since highschool and I have always loved film and video. I currently have started working with a few seasoned professionals (in after effects and cinema 4D) and I am now finding myself getting more and more involved with complex sequences that require a little bit more of a knowledgebase!

Thanks a ton for both your advice and inspiration.

This is a good tut’ for basic 3D titles, camera animation etc – https://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials.html?id=32

Try some of the others at Videocopilot.net too.
