when i need to create a small media file for email or the web, i will always render out as lossless animation and take that to the compression software to create the smaller file. you will almost always get noticibly better quality and samller file sizes by using this workflow.

if your compression software doesn’t take quicktime file, uncompressed avi would work equally as well.

as far as your question, i’m not sure why ae’s wmv would not work, but if you can convert a quicktime or avi to wmv with another piece of software that would be the better way to go.

okie thats good enouf for me the lossless animation i like forgot about it ,hehe , but thing is that after that i must use another program to compress with…slows down…if things can be finished in after effects…which program you use to compress with? regular offline soft?

i’ve used both sorenson squeeze and apple’s compressor, both on mac. i like both of them, they are both easy to use and you get good quality for file size…. however, i was not encoding to wmv.

i know there are several choices for wmv encoding software for pc. but sorry to say i can’t really make any recommednations. but finding software that will make two passes, one to analyze and the other to compress, will help create good quality, low file size media.
