[David Roth Weiss] “I’m guessing that great up/down and standards conversions may be in the future of Blackmagic I/O devices and cards.”

I agree with that. I also wonder how long it will be before we see a DaVinci hardware accelerator.

Or does the pace of GPU development make that unnecessary?

Could they create a system to rival Quantel?

I guess they already have one with the Linux version of Resolve ( and it’s support for 16 GPUs).

    Wow.

Don’t forget the EchoLab acquisition, either. They’ve acquired quite a lot of impressive technology and engineering talent in the last couple years.

How is their tech support talent these days?

[Jason Jenkins] “How is their tech support talent these days?”

At their prices they don’t believe in tech support. Fortunately I’ve never had a single hardware malfunction with any of their cards and converters and this is going back at least 7 years. If you like tech support, you buy AJA.

BMD is slowly and surely becoming a behemoth. It’s good to see some video companies growing now when so many of the older ones are dead and dying.

I heartily second this. I’ve been using their cards for a similar amount of time, and have always been happy.

If they do buy Avid, wouldn’t they kill support for AJA, MOTU, MATROX, BLUEFISH?

    That would suck big time…
