Memory or CPU?
This is a kinda dumb question… but when I’m workin w/ AE (or 3D software for that matter, as well) which is more important between the CPU and memory?
Currently I have a 1.73 533FSB 2MB Pentium M w/ 1.2G ram
I have the option (atm) of upgrading to 2.22 to 2.33 CPU or 2G ram.
I’m a PC user running a dumbed down WinXP SP2 to save memory allocation and process counts. I’m just not sure which will give the best performance output as far as work area and renderings.
Eventually I’ll have both, but probably not for a little while if this new video card comes through.

I would say that RAM will give you the biggest immediately recognizable performance boost as AE will have to go to your Hard Drive (the weakest link in this chain) less often. I like to think of RAM as the limit to your highest achievable performance. Even if you have a fast processor, if you don’t have the RAM its performance is wasted with paging files/virtual memory on your hard drive.
This, of course, depends on how RAM intensive your application/project is, but AE tends to be a memory hog.
