final DVD looks strange, like 24p or 30p
I start with 60i footage from a DVX100a. Footage was shot on a green screen. In AE I use keylight to remove the green screen. I composite my background and some more graphics and output the composition to a quicktime file so that I can put it on a DVD. When I watch the footage, my speaker has a slight stutter to it, as though it’s frame rate is 24p or 30p. I tried exporting to the animation codec and I tried exporting to the DVCPro 50 codec with the same results. I’m sure there is something I’m doing wrong. Anyone can help.

Did u try to interpret your footage? Mark it as interlaced footage! 🙂

Were you taking video of a speaker or are we talking about an audio issue?
The problem could be in AE (check the interpretation of the footage and the comp settings), but I think it’s more likely a problem with your encoding for the DVD, how did you encode the video/audio? Or are you trying to watch it from a Data DVD on a computer?
More specifics about the process would help =)

If you want specifics, here you go.
COMP SETTINGS: NTSC DV. Width 720. Height 480. Pixel Aspect Ratio D1/DV NTSC (0.9). Frame Rate 29.97. Resolution Full.
The footage was brought in normally as DV NTSC footage in FCP and exported as a self contained FCP quicktime. Nothing different. In AE, it says it’s 720×480 (0.9) Separating (Lower), 29.97 fps, DV/DVCPRO NTSC.
I’m not sure what the Interpret Footage thing is supposed to do. I’m not changing from one frame rate to another.
I already told you my render settings in AE: Quality: Best.Frame Blending: On for Checked Layers. Field Render: Off. Pulldown: Off. Motion Blue: On for checked Layers. Frame Rate: 29.97 (comp). Output Module: Quicktime Movie, DVCPRO50-NTSC.

if your render setting is field render off, as you say, then you are rendering 30p… set field render to the same as your source (lower by your description).
genearlly speaking you will want to set your render settings to the same as your source, this applies to audio as well, if you render with audio, make sure the render audio rate is the same as the audio in the comp.

Kevin makes a good point about the field render. However, you should note that I didn’t ask you how you rendered your footage, but how you encoded it for the DVD.
Is it intended to be played in a set top DVD player? Are you just putting the rendered file on a Data DVD? These are two wholly different undertakings with different issues that can arise.
I think the issue is the field render as Kevin (moldyboot) pointed out, but there was a good reason I asked you to specify your encoding and final destination.

oh, i misunderstood. What I did was take the rendered file and put it into iDVD. I didn’t further encode it. I tried a Animation codec rendered file AND a DVDPRO 50 rendered file directly out of AE. I didn’t run it through compressor or anything.
