    Hi Everyone,

I apologize if someone has posted a similar topic before. I currently need to achieve the following effect for a school project and I’m a total newbie to after effects so was hoping to get expert advice from the gurus.

    1) Guy sits on chair
    2) Guy starts to meditate
    3) Guy starts to emit a glowing aura
    4) Guy’s skin slowly changes into snakeskin starting from the top of his head to the ends of his fingers

The guy on the chair is not in front of a bluescreen. Would this pose a problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Justin

[justinkhwong] “Would this pose a problem?”

Yes, but you might be able to at least fake a glow if the guy is sitting pretty still in the chair with some masks and an adjustment layer. Luckily a glow is usually pretty diffuse, so nobody should notice if it doesn’t emit exactly at this guy’s edges. The skin changing would be a more difficult thing to pull off with masks…

The guy is sitting for most of the scene but his arms/hands do move a little for a few seconds. Would this greatly increase the difficulty achieving the glowing effect? Ok lets say I were to reshoot the whole scene again, what do I need to do to pull off both a convincing glowing effect as well as the changing skin? Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your advice Dave. Yep looks like it’s back to the drawing board, literally. While I’m working out the details of the camera shots and the effects I want to achieve, need to know a couple of things.

    1) Can the effects be achieved using native after effects controls or some 3rd party plugin would be required?

    2) How would you do it? Preferably a reasonably quick way without compromising too much on the quality of the effect.

*Sigh* I’ve got like 2 weeks to hand up the video clip and working full time doesn’t really help…hahaha…hope I can pull this off.

Thanks a lot Dave. Will try out your suggestion. To answer your question in an earlier post

“How does that snake skin replace human skin: does it pop up in various places like zits, does it slide into place, or something else? Indicate how it does it. Does this snake skin look like a snakeskin tattoo over normal skin, or do the hairs on the arm go away to be replaced by scales?”

I was thinking of doing a snakeskin tattoo over normal skin, starting with the head and creeping all the way to the hands.
