Here was a question that was just asked to me by John:

You wanted questions. Here are mine:

How will it handle all the various formats that are out there? Which ones will need to be transcoded?

Also, what happens with my archive of video on tape?

    Here’s my response:

    Hey John,

Great questions. My tutorial today should sum things up, but here’s a brief summary of my thoughts.

How will it handle all the various formats that are out there? Which ones will need to be transcoded?

When you create a new project, you have access to SD NTSC/PAL, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, 2K and 4K with frame rates of 23.98 all the way to 60. You also have access to the different rasters as well (1440×1080, 960×720, etc). Remember, transcoding and proxies would be more so if you had 2K footage, but your system could only handle 720p.

Here’s a snapshot of the “New Project” window –

Also, what happens with my archive of video on tape?

Currently, FCPX can capture and edit DV and HDV, and I’m assuming (hoping) that they will begin to support AJA, Blackmagic, etc.

Hope this helps. My tutorial series should start to answer some questions. Thanks.
