Marking an audio track to use in a composition
Hello,
What is the process of incorporating just a few specific (consecutive) seconds of a tune into a composition?

I followed your steps, thank you. But now I’ve more queries:
1) My composition is only about 14 seconds. The length of the (AIFF) track is about 3 minutes. When I add it to the composition, does AE cut it to the length of the comp (I do not see where I can adjust the window to see the entire length no matter how small I reduce the view)?
2) When I open it in the audio in the layer window, I can see the full timeline and preview the audio, yet I cannot see the waveforms — how can I make the waveforms visible here?; and,
2) I have my layer and comp windows side by side in order to sync the audio with the animation, but the animation does not seem to RAM preview along with the music. How can I view the video and audio together to edit?
I hope these questions make sense. Let me know if you’ll need additional information.

I value very much your custom responses here in the forum.
I did not follow your tip — “You only export the part of the audio that you want to AE” — since I wasn’t sure which part I needed. I was hoping to experiment and view the animation with different parts of the piece.
After I posted the questions I did figure out that I can mark 14 seconds of the audio in the layer window and move it around to different parts of the track and experiment with what works best with the video. By doing this, the audio shows up in the timeline the length of the animation.
Regarding the waveforms. I can see the waveforms in the timeline, but not in the layer window for some reason.
I did find good information in the AE Help too — especially the Audio Preview — it’s very helpful to move the time marker in the layer window to the point you want to hear then go to Composition > Preview > Audio Preview (here forward) as it saves a lot of time.
Please, I find your help here on the forum valuable. Please excuse me, as a beginner to AE and online forums, I realize I am posting questions before I experiment enough.
