  Magic Lantern

  Has anybody ever taken the chance of using magic lateen on a rented camera? If I take the card out will the camera be ok to return? Thanks in advanced!

  Nope. Because if something goes wrong and you brick the camera, you’ll be paying whatever the rental houses policy is on the broken/defective equipment (price of the camera + fees).

  I would not attempt to run ML on anything except my own gear, knowing full well what the risks are.

  Yep…we run it on our 5D3. It’s gotten to be more straight forward about how to load it, but I wouldn’t try it on rental gear.

  The dynamic range and clarity is absolutely incredible…but so are the overall file sizes. It adds quite a bit of time in post to move the data, transcode it, etc. So it’s not for every job, but there are times when it is useful.

  Unfortunately, my 5D Miii is at firmware 1.2.3. I’m waiting and hoping ML releases a Raw solution with this version of the Canon’s firmware.

  We had 1.2.1 on our camera to test the “clean” HDMI out. It was alright, but at only 8-bit it didn’t give us huge leg up. Once the hack was usable we just rolled our firmware back to 1.1.3 to work with ML RAW. Not too big a deal.
