Copying Compact Flash Cards to a drive (Mac)
A quick question. What are people shooting with the 5D Mark II or III using to copy compact flash cards to a drive while making sure data integrity is sound? I’ve done simple finder copies to a portable G-Drive (FW 800) that have had dropouts. But when you go back to the original file on the Compact Flash card are fine, no dropouts.
My work flow is shooting in the field, using a Macbook Pro with a Thunderbolt CF reader, coping to a G-Drive mini (FW 800). Once back at the studio, this gets copied to the SAN. So I am copying twice on top of all this.
Thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

I’ve been shooting DSLR since 2009, and I primarily just copy the .MOV files directly off the card onto my SAN. But there’s a number of other ways you could do it as well
(1) Make an image of the card using Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper, you can then mount this image on your computer back at the shop and extract the files
(2) Ingest the footage on location using Adobe Prelude, Compressor, Grinder, or media encoder
(3) Use the included Canon Utility and copy off the files
(4) Use Image Capture on your Mac to copy the footage offRyan Holmes

Thanks for the response but I guess this doesn’t really answer my stated question. I’ve seen the drop out when shooting with the Sony F3 to CF cards in a AJA Ki Pro Mini as well. Copy the cards to the external drive and see dropout. Look at the original file on the CF card and no dropout.
My question for anyone looking at this thread is: Is there software for the Mac the checks the integrity of the data as it copies. A disc image won’t. Neither will Carbon Copy Cloner nor SuperDuper!. I use SuperDuper! by the way to clone my system drive but you have to make sure it still works as it doesn’t guarantee data integrity.

Warren this may also solve your problems (though it’s only in Public Beta right now). Red Giant just released a product at NAB called BulletProof that looks like it has a similar feature set to what you’re asking about
