    Hey all,

question. I have to transfer 5D files form the card to external hard drives and was wonder the best way to do this. Since the files are H.264, I can literally mount the CF card to the computer and them copy them to the external drive correct??? Then I can use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to trans-code to ProRes 422 HQ. I know I can do all of this in FCP using the log and transfer, but we will not have this option at the time.

    Thanks for the clarification.

If you’re asking if you can copy the files from CF card to external drive, the answer is yes. I don’t have the 5D, but the folder structure should be the same – files are in /DCIM/100CANON/ folder. Grab MOV and THM files. If you are using FCP plugin from Canon to transcode, it should still read from the copied folder as long as the THM files are there.
