I am just learning the software (AE 7.0), and am learning the tricks.
My only problem to date is when I render to an .avi file, the played back file is jerky and appears to have dropped frames.

    What setting am I missing???
I have tried numerous changes to the render settings – but all with the same results.

I am running a Dell precision 2.8GHZ, 1GB RAM, plenty of disk space.

Could it be a hardware issue.
I have used similar products in the past and all files play normally.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Whats the format for the source footage you’re using. This can happen if you’re importanting different flavors of mpeg… which I don’t think is supported in earlier versions of after effects.

not quite sure, I use 6.5

Source format is .avi, from different programs.

    1) Adobe Premere 7.0
    2) Particle Illusion SE

Even rendering the output avi. from Premere only, playback is still jerky/dropped frames (is there a technical term for that??)

Viewing rendered file with Divx Player and Windows Media player.

Was using Premere to clip segments and save as separate files.
Using PI for special effects, then using After Effects to put it back together.

    Thanks
