shooting on Green screen…
hey there fellas… ok now i am an amature at video fx… but here’s what i wanna do… using a normal 16mm or 35mm film camera.. i want to shoot a sequence on a Green/Blue background… and i am hoping that once i get the footage..into after effects.. or premiere , i can use the chroma key and replace the green with some background… i hope i am thinking right??? any suggestions or pointers to help me learn more about this would be really great.. thanks guys… u ppl rock!!!

There are a lot of ways to do this and it depends a bit on what version of AE you are working with and what keying plugins it has.
You might want to download the demo version of ‘keylight’ (https://www.thefoundry.co.uk) if you don’t have it and file through the manual pdf. It provides some well done tutorials that will give you some backround about keying as well.

Oh, Very important light your screen one f-stop below the F of your subject.
When you trasfer the film to Video use a Non – interlaced format..
When you get it in after effects don’t just pull the blue and replace it also create a matt – that is pull the blue and then go to transform the layer to a alpha matte then scale up by a pixel or two and use this over your composite to bend the light around your blue screen subject. that is create a feel that he is more in the enviroment then just placing him over a back ground will do … Trish and Chris Meyer have a great tutorial in their book ..After effects in Production to teach you how to do this..
Also add a drop shadow to the subject matter once you pull the blue … other wise (It) Will seem not to have a shadow… sorry its a pet peave.
Also do this in 3D mode so you can add a light that will effect both your subject adn the new background… reason … it evens their textures out a bit…
