I can’t seem to render or even preview a composition in After Effects without getting this error message:

“After Effects error: opening sound component (-2166)”

I am in AE 5.5 on a Mac running OSX and have imported quicktime files for sound.
Is there a setting somewhere I have missed?

Any help to this mystery would be greatly appreciated….

No guarantee, but try upgrading QuickTime to whatever the latest version is. Apple inadvertantly broke some stuff in AE6 (probably also 5.x; but I think it’s not a problem in 7.0) when they made some changes in QT 7.0.x. The latest version restores some of this, I think. Good luck.
