Hello, I’ve just spent ages making a movie with up to 6 layers of effects and when I render it out I get a very blocky video. I am using After effects 6.5 and the windows dv encoder. The raw fotoage is quite clean but the final quality is made up of noticable macro blocks. Is the windows codec the problem. I am quite surprised at the lose in quality. Any suggestions welcome.

I don’t normally render out of AE to a DV codec. I usually see the same thing your discribing.
It would have been helpful if you would
    1.) Fill out your profile
2.) Let us know what system you’re rendering to.

But I would render to an animation or uncompressed codec, then let your host application import it with it’s codec. Usually looks a lot better.

    Good Luck,

Thanks for the reply. I’ll give what you say a go. I have tried other codecs and the problem is less.
Also, yes i should have filled in my profile, I’ll do that now.
    Thanks again for the resource.
