Converting 30i to 23.97
Posted by Anthony on November 2, 2005 at 2:19 amCan anyone explain to me how to convert 30i footage to 23.97? Also, when I interpret a clips field rendering, am I in effect deinterlacing it? Reason I ask, is I have a ton of 30i footage I need to convert into 23.97 progressive…
Thanks!

.
If so, you’ll be ok. The process is called inverse telecine. If not, you’re going to get funny looking results.I would use virtual dub to do the IT. IT implies de-interlacing so never do both.
Hope this helps.

November 2, 2005 at 1:26 pmNo, this footage was originally 30i. Unfortunatley, alot of supplemental material is being pulled by the editor thats 30i to put into a shot being cut in a 23.97 timeline. Im the unfortunate soul to have to convert it all, and my only option is AFX..

November 2, 2005 at 5:23 pmthere is no such thing as 30i. Most likely your referring to 60i where as your footage was shot at 29.97 frames per second interlaced.
Now you’ll need something like Magic bullet is cinelook to do the trick. good results can also be achieved with twixtor.good luck

November 3, 2005 at 3:42 pmSince your video is really 60 half frames every second, to make an entire frame it will have to blend 2 fields together into one frame. If you do this without interpolation, you get a nasty image. Magic Bullet does interpolation so that the image doesn’t look so bad. Pulling out frames isn’t a problem, you could really do this with simple tools. It’s the creation of whole frames out of fields that is the challenge.
