    Hi there everyone,

I’m recently started using After Effects 6.5 and whenever i try to add text to a new composition by clicking on the text tool, as soon as i draw the rectangle to put the text in, the program crashes. I then just get a “Not responding” error message in the title bar.

I can do other much more complicated effects so can’t understand why it won’t let me add simple text! I have:

128MB ATI Radeon X300 SE Graphics Card
    3GHz P4 processor
    512MB Dual Channel DDR2 400MHz RAM

If anyone can suggest what the problem may be i would be most grateful!

    Thanks in advance,
    Jamie

You might have some corrupted fonts.

Have you tried adding point text (just click in the Comp panel without dragging a text box)?

    Hi Jim,

thanks for the reply, unfortunately it didn’t work – as soon as i click in the comp window the program stops responding.

I don’t suppose you/anyone has any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jamie

    Ideas:

    – Trash AE prefs.
    – Reinstall AE.
    – Troubleshoot fonts. By this I mean pulling out fonts from your fonts folder. Often one corrupt font can kill a whole app.

Thanks for the suggestions Timothy but none of them worked i’m afraid.

It’s weird – i have the same problem when i try and edit text in menu buttons in Encore. I have also had problems rendering movies in Premiere – when i have text with effects such as shadow, it causes the render to crash sometimes.

Does that help anyone work out what might be wrong?

    Cheers
    Jamie
