Magic Lantern for 550d?
Hi Guys, ok ive got a Rode Vidmic pro and to be honest im not happy with the sound https://youtu.be/8k66FWMlgOw Apart from poor contrast and iso control which dosent do the 550d any justice. I was readin that for the rode to work well i needed to change the auio input settings down by 3 however i dont see any audio input settings in the standard firmware. Reading around it seems i need magic lantern, i was wondering what version is stable for the 550d? Also how reliable is it and what settings are best to enable. The issue i have is i have sent the 550d to a friend to do some shooting on saturtday so i need to tell him what to do over the phone.

I’m working with ML quite a time now and I’m very happy with it. Don’t want to miss it anymore!
I can’t say anything about the audio features since I use an external audio recorder, the 550D onboard-sound just as a reference.What I found out is that not every new version is stable on every camera. Some unstable versions brought the camera to “hang up. So if something weird occurs while ML is running, it’s best to stop recording (if possible) and get out the batteries quickly.

I found his builts to be more stable than the “original” ones by Alex…
Concerning features to enable: I find focus-peaking, rack-focussing, the histogram display while shooting, the magic zoom, the possibility to shoot with “cleaner” ISOs and the higher bitrates with the q-scale feature most useful.

This sounds like a problem with the placement of the mike in an acoustically challenging location.
Is the mike mounted on the camera? Or is flown over the top on a boom pole?

Hi, thanks for all your help so far, it was mounted ontop of the cam ona tripod. I’m considering switching to a hand held also but want to give the vid mic pro one more chance hence I was looking at the settings recomended. Any help setting up is apreciated. Thanks

You can pay a lot of money for a really good microphone but if you don’t place it carefully it will not give good sound.
Suggest you look at the Rode University website where they have lots of good tips on how to use their mics (or any other brand).
