Getting ready to do a large 2 camera shoot with 7D canon DLSR and I was curious if you can record to an AJA-Ki-Pro or is the HDMI output only sending an 480 signal to the monitor? I’m trying to solve the timecode and audio issues with shooting with this camera.

I haven’t done this, but found the following

    https://cheesycam.com/canon-60d-external-monitor-1080hd-playback-480sd-recording/

He was able to view 1080p on a monitor with the 7D – while recording.

Not sure how that works with audio and the Ki-Pro. I guess you would have to tell the Ki-Pro audio is coming via XLR.

    Won’t work…I tried. Here’s what happens.

    – With HDMI connected, the LCD display goes away. So you can’t see what you are shooting. The signal is going to the KiPro.

    – If you monitor THRU the KiPro, you will note that what you see is the LCD display…with everything you see with an LCD. The grey bars on top and bottom, the display information…everything. Turn off the display info, and you still have those black bars on the top and bottom.

    – If you press RECORD on the Canon DSLRs (don’t see why you would if you used the KiPro), then the signal coming out of HDMI switches to an SD signal.

But the biggest issue is that you don’t get a clean signal. You get the LCD display.

You can TRY to monitor with the output signals, but there’s no way to have an HD signal to record. More info here:
