Best DSLR video bag + laptop?
Hey Gang,
I’m headed to Tajikistan in August to shoot a documentary, and our camera of choice is the Canon 7D. Currently I keep all my gear in Pelican cases, but for this I’m looking for a really good backpack for the DSLR.
Ideally, I’d like to fit the canon, 2 lenses, a follow focus rig and my laptop as well as a few other accessories all in one backpack. Any suggestions out there?
What kind of backpack style cases are you guys using to lug your gear around?

I would find one that could fit a T2i backup body. 🙂

Good point, bringing a backup camera will not only give you a bit of piece of mind but give you more flexibility in your shooting options by having 2 cameras running simultaneously…you can always rent the T2i cheaply for a few weeks and share lenses with what you already have.

Excellent point! There will be two of us, tho with to cameras… so whichever bag we get we’ll probably score two of them for the treck. Tho… maybe each of us having a backup isn’t such a bad idear either!

These cameras are so cheap (it is all the extras the cost the real $) there really is no reason not to have a back up especially if it not a place you can just return to. Renting is a good option also. One between the 2 of you would probably be safe.
Years ago I was on a 3 day photo adventure in the Smokey Mountains, on the first day someone passing by my tripod kicked it and the camera casing broke. While I would a bit pissed about that being about to continue shooting on my second body at least the weekend one of the most enjoyable event I had.

This is one of the bags I have and love it
I get 5D/7D in there my 70-200, 24-70, 100 macro, and 50 in the main compartment. Above I can fit flash, card reader, tripod collars, zfinder and other small things and laptop and ipad go in the back. Obviously cant pack hand held rig. But I have the little Tamrac tripod attachment for the bottom of the bag

I have the Lowepro Computrekkor, which fits most of my stuff, the only thing I would consider is a version of this backpack with wheels.

Kata Sensitivity V Backpack is amazing.
The thinnest and lightest DSLR/laptop backpack I have seen with good padding.
I saw one in San Fran and had to have it, found one on eBay for $70, I think usually they are $90-110.
If you are near a place with one, try it out. It’s great for when your shooting in some outdoorsy terrain too.Brandon Morris
