Canon T2i/550d and max ISO in video mode
Posted by Jonathan White on April 21, 2010 at 11:28 amHi,
Just got a 550d and have been playing with it. I can set a max ISO for stills mode but I’m not sure if I can for video… this would be important as I’d like to limit the top for night shoots… anyway other than going full manual?
Thanks,Johnny

April 21, 2010 at 2:23 pmYou don’t want ISO to be auto while shooting video- that leads to the exposure changing within a shot which is a dead giveaway of ahem amateur operation. So stick with manual ISO operation. You’ll be able to tell in the viewfinder right away if you don’t have enough exposure in a shot. But I’d also suggest that past a certain ISO- say 800 just for argument’s sake you would be better off bringing in some lights rather than taking a shot with massive grain.

April 21, 2010 at 4:24 pmThanks Noah, I agree with you but sometimes when its run & gun I like to take an auto exposure and lock it with the ‘*’ key, then it would be nice to limit the ISO (gain) to say 800 like you say…. possible?

April 21, 2010 at 5:23 pmYou can still do that by popping into one of the auto modes and seeing what it does. Just gotta get quick with the mode dial. Though I’d still suggest picking one standard ISO for the whole scene- you really notice the difference in terms of gamma, color, latitude etc. Could draw more attention to a run and gun shoot than you want.
