7D + Audio H4N + Footage 29,97fps + Pluraleyes
Hi everybody,
I have a big problem to sync my 7d footage (29,97 fps) with my H4N Audio (48 Khz and; about 30.00 minuts of length) in a FCP project
I have tried to:
-stretch the audio track before and sync with plural eyes after but it’s doesn’t work.
-stretch the audio track after the sync with pluraleyes but it’s doesn’t work.When I do this with a footage from 5D (30 fps) I don’ t have no problems
Is there some trick that could help me?

Huh, I’ve seen this problem with the H4, but not the H4n. I guess the problem is that the H4/H4n don’t time/date stamp or clock correctly – I’ve heard the fostex works better, but I have no experience. If you can’t get it to work in Pluraleyes which is supposed to work, you’ll have to stretch and/or clip your audio to make it work. Is your 30 min going to be continuous or will you be cutting it up? If you’re cutting it up, you can hide the sync issues with your cuts. If the sound is drifting ahead, try stretching 99.9% or 100.1% if it’s behind.

Yes, it is an H4, not an H4n. Sorry.
I’ ve just tried to stretch at 99,9 / 99,98 /99,80 / 100,07 /100,1/100,2 after and before using plural eyes
but It doesn’t work.
I don’t know what can I do. -

I’d just suggest manually eyeballing it with some razor edits. If you have say 5 minutes at a time that stays in sync on a 30-minute tape that means you make 6 razor edits and drag the audio back into sync and trim. 30 minutes is a pretty long take to get sync with a Zoom. It’s not the same as say a Deva or a SoundDevices with real pro timecode.

The H4 will drift a bit over 30 minutes and cutting up the clip into smaller chunks as Noah suggests is a good thing to try.
But if you are flipping back and forth between 29.97 and 30.00 fps projects, you need to be careful how you set up Final Cut. See this blog post for details:

Hi everybody,
I’ ve tried to do sync following your instruction and
the best result is to sync manually with a strech of 100,14 (calculating stretch with FCP) without using plural eyes.
Maybe 30 min with H4 and 7d is a too much long lenght for a sync with plural eyes.

A required stretch of an amount so close to 1001/1000 is almost certainly a result of your settings in Final Cut Pro. The H4n is much more accurate than that. I really recommend that you follow the steps I recommended earlier (link below). If you do exactly what it says I am confident that your sync problems will disappear.
