According to the info at https://www.squarebox.com/upgrade.html, CatDV server can be used for licensing desktop software. Does that make the desktop licenses floatable? That’d be a pretty big deal for us. We have a large number of users who would only need periodic access to the software, but would need the full-featured client.

    Hello Jeff,

No it doesn’t. See the following from the 6.7 release notes:

“Please note that using the CatDV Server as a license server does not change the basic license terms. Licenses are not concurrent or “floating” licenses and you still need one license for each machine you use CatDV on – once a client machine has requested a client license it uses up that license for that day and prevents any other machine using the license until the next day.”

    Cheers,

The ability to use the CatDV Serer as a license server is designed to make deployment on a network easier so you don’t need to configure each client separately. There’s some flexibiity built in and licenses are freed automatically (after 12 hours I think), so as the network configuration use of machines evolves over time you can use the license on the new machines without having to manually clear it from the old ones (or use a dongle or enter MAC addresses or anything fiddly like that), but the basic license terms are unaltered.
