Will CatDV 10 Beta be replaced with the retail version before the end of the month? I’ve already paid for it and I don’t want my beta version to self-destruct on the 31st. Unless I’m missing something obvious on the Square Box web site……..

CatDV Betas are like a long Summer afternoon…

They stretch on for a while, but the versions keep coming. 😉

I think that’s good to say here because I’ve had IT guys rail at me for running beta software on deployments. In this product, because of its depth, beta periods are long and no public beta should be feared, in my opinion and experience.

“long Summer afternoon… ” That almost made me spit out my drink Bryson hahaha so true the CatDV beta’s do go on for a bit but for good reason as you point out!

Fundamentally you are right though these should not be feared and are pretty well baked as these betas get kicked around as alphas for quite awhile before they hit the public.

That’s also a reflection of the modern agile way of development, with continuous refinement. Lots of small releases rather than one big release that risks breaking things. If a major feature is new in a particular release that might have some minor problems in the first version, but everything else in the application should be very stable, even if it still says “beta” (though for the record we’re now onto release candidate 2).
