CG2730 as grading monitor
Hi there
Im gonna go full monty on the color grading business, and I am slowly starting to gear up. I need a prober monitor to start out with. I dont have the money for the state of the art monitor yet, but I would like to get something decent. I had my eyes on the Dreamcolor z27x but as I can read in a lot of forums it has some serious flaws.
Now im thing about the Eizo CG2730 – on paper it looks great – or does it?
Anyone has some thoughts on the CG2730 as a grading monitor?
Is it better than than the Eizo CG277?
Should I buy a Eizo at all, or should I look for a whole different monitor?
Im grading in Davinci Resolve on a maxed out 7i Imac 27″ late 2015 with AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4096 MB and 32GB ram.

Resolve is designed to be used with Blackmagic video I/O hardware for proper monitoring. Instead of looking at computer monitors, buy a proper video monitor and connect it to a Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini Monitor ($145) video I/O box.
Regarding affordable broadcast monitors, Flanders Scientific sells a broadcast LCD monitor (AM210, $1995) that’s in the same price range as the Ezio computer monitor that you listed.

The Eizos are very much intended for color correction, the CG2730 even has a built-in calibration sensor. Though as Alan suggests, it won’t show the proper broadcast color space without a Rec. 709 equipped i/o interface like the Ultrastudio. If you feed it straight HDMI from the computer you’re only seeing RGB.

As i pointed out im a total hardware newbie – so all help is appreciated big time!
Thoughts so far….
The Flanders AM210 as i can read, is not primarily made for grading but for editing.
Compared to the Eizo CG2730 the flanders is, as i can read, only 8 bit HD vs 10 bit 2K and the contrast ratio is 1000:1 vs 1500:1
The Eizo covers: Adobe RGB: 99%, DCI-P3: 98%
But are there things im missing out on when Im comparing the two? And would you guys still say that the Flanders is the better choice of monitor?

How about the GUI part?
I have two aging Apple Cinema 30s that plays tricks on me (non cal) all the time 😛
Has anyone found a happy not so expensive medium for GUI?

Have you ever calibrated any of these GUI to come close to your grading monitor?
