    Hello all!

    I am extremely new to the Adobe Suite (currently using CS6) and I am teaching myself as much as I possibly can in order to create some unique designs for a projection mapping project I’m working on.

    I am currently stuck on animating filigree. I found a tutorial that takes an image, and uses auto-trace as well as a MasktoLayers script in order to isolate each and every curl, but from I can tell, that method only worked on his example because each of the pieces were independent, and didn’t overlap. So that leaves me with the question of how to isolate each of the swirls in the below image so I can independently animate them.

    Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

    Look for a similar-looking filigree that is vector-based, not bitmapped. Then you can copy and paste the individual parts from Illustrator to After Effects solid layer as masks.

    There are other sites as well.
    You need to do some work and separate the vector drawings in layers.
    You can also use Autotrace in AI to use the bitmap you have and convert that to vector.
