  Kodak S360 – 360 degree video on YouTube

  I’m working with some Kodak S360 footage as a proof of concept (hopefully leading to a larger budget setup).

  Anyone know a workaround to prevent YouTube from showing the black bottom space (the area not covered by the lens) on playback? I know it’s part of the format but maybe there is a way to limit the area the viewer can see..? Would have to be some kind of script for YouTube, I suppose. Long shot, but appreciate any help!

  Hi Dave,

  Vertical pixel count after editing in AE is 720 (the original is 1440×1440).
  I’m using this workflow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcrrskHYpBg

  YouTube does the wrapping for you so no need to create pans in AE.

  AFAIK there’s only one projection type Youtube supports now. So no.

  Restricting the range of motion should be extremely unsettling if the viewer were wearing a head-mounted display.

  One trick is to fix it in comp: create an element that can plausibly exist under the camera mount, so it’s less distracting for the viewer when they look down than the black void.

  That, or sell the space as sponsorship…

  Thanks for the advice, everyone. Maybe we’ll throw a logo treatment down there for the time being while waiting for a better rig.

  Hopefully YouTube will make it easier at some point to manually edit these properties.
