    Hi guys,

Just running some tests for a upcoming grade. The test material has been composited and exported as RGB + Alpha. We want to grade the 2 layers separately in Resolve 9 Lite.

I thought that I would be able to pull an external matte in Resolve from the Alpha channel within the clip. But all of the documentation I have seen including Juan Salvo’s helpful tutorial https://vimeo.com/49029693 uses a separate file to create this external matte.

Just trying to minimise the number of files/legwork we have to deal with. Is there a way to do it my way ?

    Thanks

You can use after effects for example to render that alpha as a matte and then use it that way,

I believe Resolve 9.1 respects alpha channels in prores 4444 files for titles and the like.

Thanks for the kind words Sherwin, good luck.

Hmmm… Just a follow up question:

How can I control the matte and the inverse matte seperately?

I have added a serial node and added matte and am able to control the matte layer separately. I would like to be able to do the same for the inverse matte. At the moment my adjustments of node 1 (below) affect the entire image.

I have tried going back to media and adding the matte layer twice to a clip and then selecting straight for one and inverse for the other but this is not giving me an inverse matte.

    Thanks
