  • Resolve crashes when viewing F65 footage in Windows – both v9.03 and 9.04

Posted by Francis Hanneman on December 4, 2012 at 2:29 pm

I can import F65 RAW footage film into the Media Pool, but when my mouse scrolls over the icon to preview the content, Resolve crashes. I can’t play the footage without Resolve crashing, but if I go straight to the delivery tab, I can transcode one of two files before Resolve crashes.

This happens on windows 7 64bit, with the full version of Resolve. I tried with Resolve versions 9.03 and 9.04. I tried installing the Sony F65 RAW viewer, thinking maybe it was a missing codec issue. When I tried to view the F65 MXF clips with F65 RAW Viewer, I didn’t see any clips!

I tried the clips on my Mac Pro, and the clips show up and play fine in both F65 RAW and Resolve.

    Any ideas?

    Hey Francis,

What GPU are you using? Also what is your project resolution?

My gut instinct is your GPU may not have enough memory if your running it at 4k.

project resolution is 4K – but I also tried with a project resolution at 1920×1080

    on the windows machine:
    GPU is GTX690 – 4096 MB (2048 MB per GPU) GDDR5
    GUI is Quadro 4000

when I tried to play it in the Mac Pro, it didn’t even have a GPU installed, and it played without crashing

    Found the problem –

F65 MXF clips had been transferred to PC from an HFS external drive using Boot Camp drivers, and somehow, this altered the read-write functions of the files and led to the crashes.

I re-transferred the files to PC using Paragon HFS, and the files worked fine.

Can get real-time playback with 4K files + CC and NR nodes… with 2 GTX 690s – very happy now!!
