Resolve 9 on MacBook Pro 15″ 1440×900
Up until Resolve 8 you could run Resolve only on Snow Leopard on a MacBook Pro 15″ with a 1440×900 resolution and that too with the resolution command line fix. Mac OSX Lion broke that fix.
But now, with Resolve 9, the interface works in the 1440×900 space as well. Only the main screen when one selects the project, the bottom gets hidden, so the 4 buttons and ‘Load’ are hidden. So you can’t open a new project. But click right-click anywhere in the window let’s you select new for a new project.
Wish the project open window was smaller by just about 50 pixels or so.

I stand corrected.
Upon closer inspection, several controls get hidden.
I wish its weren’t that way. Time to look at a HiRes 15″ or a retina MBP. Though there are still some good deals on 17″ MBPs. I might actually consider a 23″ LED monitor. I’m eyeing the HP ZR2440w which is going at a discount at some places.———————————–

Actually Neil its perfect for on-set when all you need to do is apply a LUT and render out h.264, ProRes or DnxHD. I’ve even upgraded the RAM to 16Gb and added an SSD for the OS. Rendering is pretty fast I’m getting close to 40fps to a USB 3.0 drive. And I’ve also connected a sonnet ECHO expansion via Thunderbolt going to an HP LTO5 tape drive for LTO backups and I’m getting really good speeds. So its a great on-set solution as no one in India is selling the Hi_Res 15″ or the 16GB Retina.
I thought of adding an external monitor as well but I haven’t tested the daisy chaining capabilities of thunderbolt to a display yet.

So you’re running a new MacBook Pro 15″ with USB 3, and getting 40 fps on the stock nVIdia GT 650?
Because the older 15″ MBP didn’t have USB 3 and had a ATI GPU which never gave me 40fps.I don’t see those speeds even with a nVidia Quadro 4000 in a MacPro with 32 GB RAM converting Alexa ProRes to DNxHD36 MXF with a LUT and burn-in. I get about 36fps on the MacPro, and never over 24fps in a 2.2 GHz i7 MBP (2011 model).
What are you converting in Resolve 9 at 40 fps on your MBP?
But at 1440×900, some buttons get hidden. Particularly the burn-in controls are unusable.

Yes its the new 2012 15″ with USB 3.0.
Actually I just rechecked, did a small test. I’m getting between 46-50fps rendering to the USB 3.0 drive. Converting Alexa ProRes444 to DNxHD 36 with LUT and burn-ins.
On my Mid 2010 MacPro with 14GB RAM and the Quadro 4000 I’m getting the same speed rendering to a SAS Raid, between 48-54fps.
About the hidden buttons: On the MacbookPro I’m using Resolve Lite v9b1 which doesn’t hide any buttons except the main project window bottom. I installed v9b2 and found some part of the interface hidden so I switched back to b1 and had no issues. All burn in controls and buttons are visible.
On the MacPro I’m using the full version Resolve v9b2.

Do you have the 2012 MBP 15.4″ 2.3 GHz or 2.6 GHz. They have different GPU RAM sizes. 2.3 has 512 MB, while 2.6 has 1 GB. Which one are you referring to?
And have you added an SSD or are you using the stock 500/750 GB HDD?———————————–

The 2.6 GHz model. I replaced the stock 750Gb with a 256GB SSD and upgraded the RAM to 16GB. Resolve 9 was sluggish with just 8GB on board and now that I am running a Linux VM with StorageDNA the 16GB does help.

I just installed Lite 9.0b3 on my 1440×900 MBP 15.4″. And now I can see all the buttons in the project screen as well as set burn in parameters. Maybe they fixed it for 9.0b3. On a cursory glance I don’t seem to be missing any interface elements.
Will check against a 23″ Cinema.

Resolve v9 is finally out of beta. The new installer is up on the BMD site for download. I would love to test it out but I have a project going on the moment and will wait for it to finish before I install the latest build.
I just noticed something on the configuration pdf for Resolve which I hadn’t noticed before. In v8 the PCI slots in the MacPro were to be slot 1 GUI and slot 2 GPU. On v9 its slot 1 GPU and slot 2 GUI.
I haven’t switched mine around as yet but I’m still getting good performance. I wonder how much of a difference it makes. Have you switched yours around yet?
