  • Shape Layer unaffected by distance from light source, is this a bug or is there solution?

Posted by Jeff Cottle on November 21, 2015 at 7:18 pm

    Hello AEForum Members,
i’m not sure if this is a bug but when i use a Shape Layer with a “Smooth” light source then the Shape Layers’ light reflection does not darken with distance from light, or brighten when closer. The Shape Layer is also unaffected by light “falloff” radius or distance.

Any solution or suggestions greatly appreciated,
    thanks,
    Jeff

No such problem here (CC14). Which version of AE are you running? What are you light’s falloff settings?

    Thank you Kalle,
for the quick reply as well, mine would have been as fast had i known.

    – i’m using AE v12.1.0.168,
    – Falloff settings: Smooth, Radius=500, Falloff Dis.=10000
..and the Shape Layer is “Auto Scaled” to z=5000 pixels, but at any distances its surface light reflection remains unchanged,.

    Talk soon,
    Jeff

Sounds good. CC14 seems to be the most workable version currently.

Bug hunting is a process of elimination, so it is good to check with another version of the program, and on another computer, to see if it is a software version or hardware issue. Or ask someone else if it works on their system 🙂
