FCP Re-Grade
I stopped using resolve for a few months due to the natural ebb and flow of our work. Now working on several projects in Mac 8.2 – and I can’t seem to get the correct setup for the ‘re-grade.’
If I recall correctly, it used to be that after re-assembling a sequence in FCP using XML exported from Resolve, if you then went BACK to resolve and re-graded and re-rendered a single shot, that shot would pop into your sequence – just like it does with color. But now I’m getting that re-graded shot as a separate render and having to re-cut it into my sequence.
Am I remembering this incorrectly? What’s the trick to force the render to replace the shot it’s… well, replacing?

You need to set your render destination to the same location as your previous renders. and make sure the naming convention is the same, so that the new render will rewrite the old file.

Sure, except that’s not working. The new render has a new name, instead of replacing the old one. I feel like there’s some switch or something I’m missing here, because I know it worked in 8.0 – (which could just be a coincidence.) if I de-select ‘render clip with unique filename’ it makes a horrendous mess, of course, though that would, on the surface seem to be the solution.

Probably better for your purposes to render to a new directory and then reconnect to the new file in fcp.
I always use the filename from source convention. But i don’t know how you set your original renders, so it’s all dependent on that.

Resolve provides a bunch on options in the Render tab. If you’re importing an FCP7 XML, it’ll default to a FCP easy setup, which may not be what you want if you just want to reconnect. Sometimes a regular “Source” render is better for certain situations, but may require more rendering.
