  • why doesn’t Davinci ever crash?

Posted by Andrew Sableton on March 9, 2012 at 8:10 pm

Color crashed at least twice a day.

FCP & Avid tend to crash around once a day.

Davinci has crashed once in two weeks of use.

    WTF!!!!

You just jinxed yourself. Good luck dealing with the karmic backlash heading your way. Better knock on wood.

It is remarkably stable, using the approved configuration with full release versions. Specially if you work in HD 709… as opposed to red or 4k. The betas and experimental configurations can get you into trouble.

Yeah…..all rec709 here…..but that still crashed Color quite often…..maybe splitting operations into two separate graphics cards has something to do with it…..or maybe it’s just better code…..I don’t know much about why these things happen….but it is nice not having to deal with such flakiness……

For whatever reason, and it was likely not being careful with project size and the volume of loaded media, there were some instances where I couldn’t keep the app running for more than a few minutes at a time. Grab a still, navigate to another clip, it would instantly exit to the desktop, no waiting. It got to a point where I would save everything before doing anything, even cueing to the next clip. Gets a little tiresome when your entire session is eaten up waiting for the progress bar to keep the last thing you did or lose it forever.

I can get to crash if you play forward / play reverse without hitting stop first (on the wave.) Is this a known bug or just me – all versions have done this and I just try to hit stop between play directions.

OTHERWISE, AWESOME. The old classic and 888 never crashed either, showing my age!

    Resolve 8.2 beta.

In thirteen years on Renaissance and 8:8:8 I had exactly one crash.

Growing up we had the same toaster for close to 20yrs…..these days you’d be lucky to get 5yrs…..progress….

Yes but then you can get a toaster with a 2k panel and LTE connection. When I first read your sentence I thought you were talking about an Amiga video toaster,
