  • Difference between LUT on Node, and LUT in Config Settings?

Posted by Chris Armstrong on December 22, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to using a LUT in the LUT config section vs. using one in a node?

Seems like it would be easier to apply (and enable/disable/swap out) the LUT if it’s configured in that LUT config screen vs. a node? (At least if you’re using the same LUT for the entire project).

What are the advantage of using it in a node?

You nailed it. LUTs on the config page govern the project while you can be selective with the node based approach – which is nice sometimes for example you might have project with linear video mixed with LOG C

It’s also great sometimes to be able to apply grades before and after the LUT is applied, if you put the LUT in a middle node. And you might occasionally come across a shot or scene where you want to use a different LUT, even if the source material is all the same…
