how do i stop Resolve conforming newly added clips all over my project
ok,
I have a 1 hour documentary with a few clips that didn’t conform correctly (turns out they’re multicamera in FCP) so I added a render of the offline to the media pool with the thought of laying this on a track above the conform and click through looking for holes then cut a bit out of this file.
However what actually happens is resolve auto-conforms the start of this clip over about 300 clips in my timeline (and then autosaves of course). This is not the 1st time that adding a clip to the media pool later has totally destroyed a perfectly good conform (not exactly the same circumstances i’m not quite that dumb). Any ideas how to stop this happening?
I can’t find the ‘I don’t want to do today’s work again’ check box

There is a specific methodology for doing this “Making Comparisons in Offline / Timeline” mode, and its covered in the Resolve pdf.
You must add your flattened guide-cut specifically as an “offline” clip in Conform, and “call” it in Timeline Management (its a right-click kind of thing. A second playhead is added and ganged to the Record-mode (or program edit) so you can step through in the way you are attempting. Offsets are available for trimming sync.

But I didn’t add it as a ‘offline clip’ to check my conform ( i know how to do that). I wanted to slice bits out of the long ‘offline’ to grade and include in the project as the conform had various files missing for various reasons (multi angle, file format etc.) and I didn’t want to go through the FCP project tediously cross-referencing TC with Resolve
But this is all a bit of red herring to my problem which is adding new files to the media pool mid-project tends to kill the conform as Resolve overwrites loads of the clips in the timeline with 1 of these files and I don’t seem to be able to stop it force conforming onto ‘correct’ clips
The above offline example is just the way it did it this time .

Could the offline clip be having similar name to those that are already in the media pool and Resolve thinks you are adding an alternative clip ?
Perhaps you could name it completely different and see if it still does the same ?

To do what you are asking can be done. Not my first choice. To do what you are asking. Set up the project and add the offline clip as an offline clip as normal. If you have found that some of the shots are wrong you can again from the Browse page, add that offline clip into the media pool NOT as an offline just add to media pool like a regular clip. Now back in the conform page still comparing with the offline. Add a track, Drag the media you just added to the empty track. Turn off the visibility on that track (the little movie camera) Keep comparing and when you find a bad shot you can turn on the visibility to see if it is the correct shot. Splice the clip on that track, delete the bad shot on the track below and drag the correct shot down.
There are several better ways to do this. If all the clips you need are already in the media pool and already split. When you find the bad shot select it in the track, find it in the media pool and select it. Right click on the track and “Force conform with selected clip in media pool”.(OK on TC mismatch it you get that message). It will put the selected clip in place of the clip on the track, you might need to slip it if you have handles and TC doesn’t match.
Simply adding clips into the media pool mid project will not change your timeline if you are doing it from the Clip Details Window on the Browse page. You must be doing it on the conform page with load or pre conform.
Add them from the Browse page but first add a folder in the Media pool Folders. Put the new clips in this new folder. Then back on the conform page you can right click on the timeline and reconform from folders. If that does not work because of TC conflicts or other reasons. Still add the new clips to a separate folder, it makes them so much easier to find and do the select and Force conform method for all clips you want to replace.Hope that helps.

For your problem of conform changing on shots added mid project TC of the clips added can make this happen. If you find this happen try to disable the force conform check box on the clip that has changed by right click on timeline then and with the C conflict showing on the clip and you can put the correct shot back.

Mary’s 1st paragraph of describing a workflow of 2 offline clips – one as an offline, one in a new track in the conform (camera icon off) was my workflow – Sorry if I wasn’t clear enough about that.
The clips in the media pool were from source files NOT a rendered offline split (tape style).
It seems that adding long rendered file to the project does cause conflicts with about a 1/3 of the clips in timeline. I’d be happy if that was all it did but actually it chooses the new clip in preference to the one already there (force conformed i guess) – way too many to go through and right click and resolve manually for this to be called a workflow.
What I wanted to know is how to add media to the project without Resolve automatically considering it a replacement for shots in the timeline. Or even better to consider it as a replacement as a second choice and not just overwrite every clip it may bear some relationship to.
I think that this is now actually a feature request for a global check box for force conform.

Something you can try to keep newly added media from messing up your timeline
1. First thing in a empty project. In Browse page Add a new folder no need to put anything in it yet
2. In conform page Load xml as you would normally
3. navigate to your media, OK, name session if needed, OK
4. when the window comes up to select folders uncheck the empty folder that you added, apply (This should keep the session from auto conforming any media you later put in that folder)
5. Back to the Browse page and add new media to the empty folder
6. check your session hopefully your original conform will not have changed
7. If this worked you can now find the scenes you want to replace and use the “Force conform” or you can try the Reconform from Folders selecting the folder with the new media.Not knowing your exact workflow I don’t know if this will work for you or not. Hopefully it will help.

This is a very useful workflow and seems a sensible way to start all projects -having 1 folder where you know the clips are not up for consideration as automatic alternatives
