XML, Final Cut and Resolve
I recently did a selects job with the editor supplying me with an XML, FCP,and EDL. I decided to try the round trip method. After a few mistakes at importing I was able to bring in the clips with the XML and it was pretty smooth. I love it when things work! First time I graded shots with dissolves and effects in the time line. Here is my question. Because there were dissolves I found that hitting the first frame key and last frame key was interesting because they parked me in the middle of a dissolve. After going thru the shots this started to become annoying. Is there a way to turn off the effects while grading to see the true first and last frame and then turn them back on again without messing up the XML output that I gave back to the editor. Basically I want to grade cuts only but have the same results when I am finished as I had by leaving them in? Also while tracking windows on the dissolve shots the only way I could make sure the tracked windows had plenty of heads and tails was to right click thumbnail in the timeline and select find in master list and drop down there and track the windows with plenty of heads and tails. Anyone know an easier way? Thanks for all the input I get from this forum. This is a great place to turn when its not in the manual.

That’s “unmix” mode you’re looking for. You can enable it by clicking the unmix tab above your nodes. It’s basically a mode that ignores dissolves and layers, and only shows you the clip you’re actively working on.

Do I need to turn unmix back on after grading before I give them back an XML?

The no need to consider for render, it’s just a color page display setting.
