  Apple LED cinema display as Grading monitor

  Hello there,

  Due to the changing industry and client demands I am thinking about getting a second Apple cinema display to use as the Grading screen.
  Remote grading sessions tend to produce much more predictive results doing so and 80% of my work will be seen on laptops or in youtube anyway.
  It also eliminates the ever lasting question : ” which screen should I look at ?”

  So, the question is, can I use the Decklink HDMI out with some clever HDMI to minidisplay port convertor ? Or is there a better way ?

  I think there are converters for display port to mini display port I wonder if the Apple LED Cinema Display is 10-bits? I have one and a HD-Link Display port maybe I will try to find an adapter and try it.

  AFAIK none of the Apple Cinema Displays are 10-bit.

  If you want it to be a true reflection of what the average person will see, I believe you should run the new monitor from the gui video card as that’s how the average person will be viewing on their system. Or pipe it out to a color critical monitor with a LUT representing sRGB.

  Correct me if I’m wrong, but the color space of what comes from your Gui card and the HD-SDI are not equivalent (sRGB vs Rec709 for HD or Rec601 for SD)…

  I have really interesting experience with that.

  We graded one music video on new apple display and later played it out in cinema
  to big NEC monster from apple laptop and the colors were spot on.
  From mini display port to dvi.

  So if the play out is similar then this workflow could work.
