Saving, Autosave, Backups etc
I run a small facility with lots of different project files from lots of applications on lots of machines. Over the years I have come up with a backup strategy for not getting stuck in the brown stuff. This involves a combination of batch files that auto run on startup, the use of online backup accounts and removable drives. We were really quite safe, until Davinci!
The manual doesn’t really go into great detail on how to do the backend administration and keep everything safe.
As far as I can tell, there is no file I can just pickup and backup. There is a database that I can navigate to in an admin tool (pgadmin) and export, but how could I go about automating that process? Also, it seems that all projects are contained within that one database, so if that database goes corrupt we lose everything?
On the autosave side, it seems that only one version is ever kept. So, unlike Avid, FCP and Protools, it’s not possible to “step back in time” if you realise you have made a drastic error some hours before?
Is there any help with this essential side of things?
