  • Tangent Wave Integration???? When?

I’d love to know what Black Magic is planning in this area. As a colourist, there is nothing more important than the degree I’m able to control the image/software.

One of the great things about color was its eventual full integration with Tangent Wave – It wasn’t just supported, we were able to fully customise the wave panel using Tangents Color software.

An amazing feat! after struggling for years with other panels with limited (often frustratingly dodgy) integration within color.

I have talked to Tangent and it appears they are waiting for Blackmagic on the issue of allowing full customisation software to be developed.

Resolve is a great product, In fact I don’t know if I will ever open Color again, but support (customisation) of the Wave Panel for those users without the Davinci Control Surface is vital to our long term adoption/love of the product.

Pete if you like the resolve now, pair it with the intended panels. The wave is a toy in comparison.
It’s like riding a bike with training wheels. In a true professional environment, I feel, that upgrade is a must.

    Hi Darin.
My question was whether the Tangent Waves was going to be integrated fully. I consider full integration as not just support, but full customisation must be possible. Im not arguing for either panel, which for most is more a business decision than a quality decision.

The wave with full customization can be very productive. It will still make a plastic noise, it won’t make client say waouh, but it will make you work very fast. It will be very professional.

It’s true that for the time being all the clicks it takes for say just to disable a node when not in the good menu is a bit funny.

If speed is what you care about, right now the best thing to do is make some macro keys – either on your keyboard, a G13, or some other extra button controller.

The Wave has only so many always-there buttons. Since the last update I feel like it’s about 90% there in terms of efficiency. Of course full customization could make it work even better for everyone’s styles, but again, some extra macro keys work wonders in that dept.

How long did it take before Color completely supported the Wave?

My opinions are based on going back and forth between the Davinci panels and the wave daily.
Once proficient using the real thing, I think you will realize why.

Don’t get me wrong, the wave does work. I’ve spent hundreds of hours, finishing several projects with it. If someone didn’t give me one, I would have purchased it.

I’m just saying, the tools as they were designed, work far better.
Asking black magic to perfect the wave to compete against the real thing is not in their best interest.
I recall a comment early on that they would not be making the wave customizable.
Now if they do it, would is use it? Most certainly. 🙂

Thrilled with the latest wave updates and hope for more functionality in the future.

I am not paid or employed by black magic in any way.

Quite a while, but as Darin has mentioned, Black Magic have not as much incentive to work with Tangent to create a better fit.

On the subject of macros, I would recommend any colourist to use them. To be able to customise the wave to be able to use macros on the “F” buttons instead of preset buttons is another reason it would be great to customise the wave.

From what I remember, it was over 6 months before Color supported USB. Before that we had the Eclipse and that was pretty buggy.

And we were using it in the Final Touch days, so we had what seemed like years of trying to get JLCooper ethernet to work optimally with color. I still have problems at facilities around town with CX desks and ethernet/Color.
