Macbook Pro 15″ and Resolve
Posted by Ben Shanahan on December 8, 2010 at 1:33 amHi just wondering if anyone here has had any joy with getting resolve to work with a 15″ Macbook Pro? We’re looking at possibly purchasing the tech guys 15″ models so its lighter and cheaper than the 17″ but will still need them to be able to run apps like resolve for troubleshooting.
We’re looking at the 512mb graphics and i7 model but am currious to know if resolve requires a 17″ screen even though we intend to use with an additional HP LP2480Michael Beck replied 14 years, 9 months ago 9 Members · 8 Replies -

December 8, 2010 at 8:11 amNo, it will run with an external screen of the needed size. But joy? No.

December 8, 2010 at 8:42 amI tried it for 15 minutes and then decided to buy a MacPro.
I think the only ones who will use this combo are DITs and DOPs on set to play around and bring their ideas to the grading suite. -

December 8, 2010 at 5:14 pmI run it at home on my 15″ with a display port cinema display. It runs it’slow and painful. I did fix up a SD project at home last week with it though…

December 9, 2010 at 6:47 pmI have a 15in i7 Macbook Pro and Resolve on a 15 inch will work in a crunch. It get’s the job done for me when I’m traveling, but I definitely miss all the realtime joy that my Mac Pro offers. As for the Resolve interface, at first it didn’t fit the 15 in screen resolution unless I hooked it up to a external monitor. But then google came to the rescue.
Close Resolve.
Now type in the Terminal App:
defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 0.85and voilà it shrinks your 15in monitor resolution size 85 percent. The Resolve interface finally fits. It’s a little smaller interface but if you are stuck with a 15in screen like I am, it’s a life saver.
To get your screen size back to normal just type again in the Terminal:
defaults write -g AppleDisplayScaleFactor 1Back to 100 percent.
Note: Any app running during the terminal commands will not be affected so make sure Resolve is closed first.
Hopes this helps someone like it did me. 🙂

January 13, 2011 at 7:45 pmHoly Cow…no pun intended.
That’s a cool solution in a pinch. Not that we’d recommend it of course, but if it works, hey that’s great!
Excellent find! Google is tops sometimes.

July 23, 2011 at 2:12 pmI would loe to see this work on my 15 inch mbp under lion. I think it is insane that I can’t run this. I can run color just fine… black magic’s devotion to large screens is really frustrating.
